Careers in Graphic and Interactive Design

Graphic designers work with every medium of visual communication – from typography and drawing to digital images and multimedia – to provide information, tell stories or convey unspoken messages and emotions. They may work in traditional print or online formats, either as independent contractors or as employees and managers in design firms, advertising agencies, media or production companies.

Employment Outlook: 2020-2030

  • The number of jobs for graphic designers is expected to grow by 11%, with more thgan 37,500 job openings during the 10-year period

These ten-year projections for California employment are calculated by the state Employment Development Department, which collects data about the state's workforce and economic trends.

Graphic and Interactive Design at De Anza

young woman at worktableThe Art Department at De Anza College offers graphic design certificate and degree programs that emphasize the elements and principles of design in combination with the use of computers, software and other design tools.

These programs focus on the creative integration and selection of type styles and images as they relate to the printed page, film and video output, web-based design, user interface design and multimedia applications. Instructors are practicing professionals and the programs are designed to prepare students to work in their field.
