Class Meetings, online, on Tuesdays, 10:30 am-11:50 am. Textbook Information: Zero-cost Textbook Description: Introduction to Universal Design concept and media accessibility principles applicable across multidisciplinary areas such as instructional design, information architecture, engineering and technology, media communications, urban design, and transit systems. Benefits of inclusive design by considering the full range of human diversity: physical, cognitive, sensory, cultural and social, and the advantages of incorporating accessibility into the planning and design phase of products, services, and consumer experiences will be examined. Students will examine legal guidelines and accessible media content design strategies for various media (digital documents, videos, audio, websites), and will identify tools and techniques to extend usability for all users. This is an online class that meets each week on scheduled days and times as noted in the class listing. Students must have access to a computer, the internet and an individual email address. Most De Anza classes will use the Canvas course management system. We recommend a laptop or desktop computer to successfully complete the course; a tablet or phone may not be adequate for all assignments and tests.
