Born on the East Coast. Mother grew up in India. Father was a minister and then a
sculptor.
Along with sister and parents, sang four-part hymns at an early age.
Started writing music at 10 or 11.
Played basketball.
Grew up in ethnically diverse neighborhoods.
Lifelong commitment to music and social equality and responsibility.
