Academic Reading and Writing


Course Description

Part 1: In this course, students receive instruction in academic reading and writing, including writing processes, effective use of language, analytical thinking, and the foundations of academic research. Part 2: This course introduces students to university-level reading and writing, with an emphasis on analysis. Students will closely examine a variety of texts (personal, popular, literary, professional, academic) from culturally diverse traditions. Students will practice common rhetorical strategies used in academic writing and compose clear, well-organized, and well-developed essays with varying purposes and differing audiences, from personal to academic.

ENGL 1000.1PQ: This class is part of the Puente Project Learning Community, designed to help first year students succeed through community-building, linked classes and Latinx focused curriculum.
